ARASHIYAMA HOUSE MAMA
Redefining the value of "As It Is" to shape the future of the townscape.
Located in Arashiyama, Kyoto, this renovation project breathed new life into a former Hankyu Railway retreat, transforming it into a vibrant hub for the local community. Reborn as "Arashiyama House MAMA," a destination featuring both a restaurant and premium guest rooms, That’s All Right spearheaded the entire production. Our comprehensive role spanned from initial concept work and business development to the design of logos, signage, and amenities, and even extended to restaurant menu development and ongoing operational support.
Integrating every element through the core philosophy of "MAMA" — The natural state of things.
As one of Japan’s most iconic destinations, Arashiyama attracts visitors from across the globe. Our starting point was to reimagine what a modern stay in this historic area could truly be. We began by uncovering the "roots" of the site—identifying how to honor the original character of the building's former structure.
Through deep exploration, we arrived at the keyword "MAMA" (meaning "as it is"). This philosophy celebrates the beauty of things in their natural, unspoiled state: savoring the pure essence of local ingredients and finding luxury in the rhythm of nature and the local atmosphere. By embedding this shared value deeply within our team and partners, every creative output—from the restaurant concept to the spatial design—converged seamlessly into a single, cohesive experience.

Identify the true essence of a business and give shape to the experience it is meant to deliver.
Our role goes beyond simply creating beautiful outputs. For example, when pizza was chosen as the main offering for a restaurant, our entire team traveled across the country to visit renowned establishments, tasting and comparing until we could precisely articulate what “delicious” should truly be.
From the perspective of an individual consumer, we continually question the essence of a business—asking whether it genuinely moves people and whether it is worth choosing. Even a single room number sign is designed not only for functional clarity, but so that the moment it catches the eye becomes part of the emotional experience of staying at the property.
Regardless of whether it falls within our core expertise, we pursue every possible means necessary for the success of the project, and continue to walk alongside it even after opening. This is the approach we value in our involvement with every project.
